I apologize for a lengthy absence. I've been very concerned with getting "settled in" with a new agent and finishing up a new manuscript for him to "shop".

I'll try to do better in the future.

In the meantime, please watch something that in my opinion says everything that there is to be said about the state of the world today:

We Will Hold You to Account

Hi Jeanne, I've come across many of your comments on Scottish blogs and thought I would say hello. I'm an expat from Oregon living in Dumfries, branch Secretary of the local SNP branch. Just curious how you got so interested in Scottish politics?

Best,

Sharon

Sharon, I've spent a fair amount of time in Scotland and expect to do so in the future. That gives me a natural interest, it seems to me, in what goes on there. I also have degrees in history and much of my time was spend studying Medieval Scottish history.

I had somewhat followed Scottish and UK politics for years but it was around the time of the al-Megrahi release that I took a look at the political situation in Scotland.

Amongst other things I was appalled at the extent of the political bias in newspaper and TV reporting in Scotland. I honestly hadn't noticed previous to that how bad it really is.

The reactions of the Americans whom I know was certainly misreported by reporters such as Mr. Glenn Campbell (whom I have come to loathe with a remarkable passion lol)

That I KNEW he was misreporting American opinion. He blatantly misreported comments from our own State Department. His slanted coverage led me to question other coverage. Add in the fact that because of international affairs (Iraq, Iceland, Afghanistan, banks, etc) I don't much like either the British Labour Party or the Tories, you can see that I am likely to rather approve of the SNP.

I was strongly struck by Mr. MacAskill's dignity and sense in handling the horrendous attacks he suffered after the al-Megrahi release. I was impressed by the support he received from the First Minister. I (yes, I confess I watch Holyrood) was impressed also by Nicola Sturgeon recently.

My reaction is that Scotland is lucky in the SNP leadership.

Perhaps more of an answer than you were looking for. :)

Jeanne,

What do you think of the fact that Jeff Breslin of SNP Tactical Voting identified Mark MacLachan?

Seumas

Since both Jeff and Mark have addressed this, let me just say that it seems to be a non-issue.

I often disagree with Jeff and sometimes in pretty strong terms, but I don't have any reason to believe he would maliciously harm someone. I don't think he did in this case.

Jeanne,

In the interests of openness, would you discuss your past mental health issues?

Thanks

Craig McIvor.

Why I'd be happy to.

I was once deluded enough to think that the BBC told the truth and that the union was in to the benefit of Scotland.

I got treatment and recovered.

I applaud your comments left on the Agent In The Middle blog. I couldn't comment there as I think the comments are being moderated, at least nothing showed up after I posted.

Glad to have found my way here as I'm keen to discover more about you.

Thanks, Wendy. No doubt I made myself less than popular but... sometimes I find myself impelled to be truthful. She had no business publishing his query. There was no reason for that except to embarrass him.

I'm just glad my own agent would never do something like that.
